St. Paul (Sept. 29, 2016) –NFIB Minnesota SAFE Trust announced their endorsements in several key
races. The political action committee formed by Minnesota’s most influential small business group, the
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), enthusiastically endorsed Representative Bob
Dettmer today in his race for the Minnesota House in district 39A.
“Representative Dettmer has cast many critical votes for small business and has truly shown his level of
appreciation for the contributions that our members make to Minnesota’s economy,” said Minnesota
NFIB State Director Mike Hickey. “Rep. Dettmer understands that small business is the lifeblood of
Minnesota’s economy and he has consistently fought for the men and women of the small business
Rep. Dettmer has voted for various bills that were beneficial to the small business community. Some of
the highlights include:
– Voted to conform Minnesota’s estate tax exemption to the federal level
– Voted to significantly reduce business property taxes by eliminating the state general portion of the
business property tax. This would give companies a 20-30% reduction on a large fixed cost and make us
instantly competitive on this issue.
– Supported legislation for employers that provided a one-time $258 million dollar unemployment
insurance tax credit that will reduce taxes for most businesses by 27-29%.
– Voted to hold the line on state spending which gave Minnesota the third smallest state budget increase
in the last 50 years.
“He has been a true ally for the small business community and we are urging business owners and
constituents in district 39A to vote for him on November 8th” concluded Hickey.
Note that this endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust (SAFE), the
association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding key small-business issues
including health care, taxes, and labor and regulatory issues.
