Twenty-Five Years Of Service In The Military - 3/11/11

Last weekend I was able to work at the Minnesota State High School Wrestling tournament. Having been a wrestling coach for over thirty years, it was an honor to be a part of such a wonderful athletic tradition. Congratulations should go out to Coach Pierce, his staff and the five Ranger wrestlers for their performance at the state tournament. I am especially proud of Michael Pleski, Tyler Isaacson and Ben Morgan for earning All State honors for their performances.
This upcoming weekend, after over twenty-five years of service in the military, I will be retiring. Having humbly served this great nation for so long it is an honor that a ceremony will be held in my honor at the Naval Reserve Center at the air base at Fort Snelling. I will be joined by my family, those I have served with, fellow legislators and must express a special thank you to Capt. Peter Demos for organizing the event.
I am proud to stand in support of the Minnesota House Republicans budget targets that were announced yesterday. Balancing the budget without raising taxes, the targets set clear priorities while having government live within its means. With a fiscally responsible plan that looks to build a path to prosperity in Minnesota through tax relief and government reform, we have offered $300 million dollars in tax relief for Minnesota families and businesses. We have taken a great step forward in moving towards a bright, sustainable future for all of Minnesota. We’ve put forth a plan that balances the budget while protecting Minnesota families and offering middle class tax relief.
The targets contain a $3.6 billion dollar reduction in future spending while calling for a reduction in all state agencies spending by 15 percent. Funding priorities, not government remains the foundational principle of Republicans as they work with the Governor to balance the state’s budget. We hold classroom funding, nursing homes, veterans and courts harmless. Building a strong future for Minnesota begins with being responsible with our spending, clear with our priorities; and innovative with our reforms.
Thank you for the honor and privilege of being your state representative.
Bob
